Emma stood by the window inside the large stone room, just people watching as there was nothing better to do... She was trying to perfect using her power in thoughts instead of speaking on the unsuspecting citizens that were in the large square outside. Nothing too drastic... yet.
She eyed up a man who was looking at one of the many stalls selling goods today. Perfect, She thought, before turning all her attention to him and trying to enter his head. This was never easy, and the added distance just added to the difficulty. Nevertheless, she tried. Walk to the next stand, and buy one of the apples... She repeated it in her head over and over again.
And it actually worked. She watched intently as he left the first stall and moved on to the next stool, pointed to an apple and handed over some money. A smile lit her face as she turned to walk out.
"oh!" She exclaimed to the young girl standing in the doorway.

Jane stood at the doorway to one of the rooms and glared at the female inside, even whilst the girl was trying to play mind tricks with people Jane knew that she was Emmalynn Rose. Jane had never really paid much attention to her, sure they got along but they weren't exactly friends.
Jane continued to glare, that was until Emma turned around, when she did Jane quickly put a smile on her face and slowly walked towards her, her feet barely making a sound as they touched the floor. "Been having a little fun have we?" Her tone had a sarcastic tone to it as Jane brushed past Emma, who was taller than herself, and made her way towards the window.

Emma stood, looking at the girl in the doorway for what felt like years. She was smaller than herself, with long brown hair and the menacing red eyes shared by all who lived in these walls.
"Jane, right?" She asked, although she was pretty certain that it was... Living here for hundreds of years, you tended to know who everyone was.
"Of course. What else is there to do right now?" She answered, adding a small smirk onto the end. "It's not like you don't 'have fun' now and again..." She said, using her hands to create speech marks around the 'have fun'. Emma knew about Jane's power well enough to know that she didn't want to get on the wrong side on this young girl.

Jane turned sharply and glared at Emma, "I have fun only when I know i'm allowed to... if it was my choice... let's just say I wouldn't be as easy going as Aro would be if her found out..." She turned again and smiled as she looked out of the window, her power was simple, get a connection to someone's mind and then Wham! they were in pain... which is what was happening now, one of the humans fell to the floor clutching their chest and writhed in pain. How easily Jane could make it worse, make it deadly...
But of course her power didn't produce real pain, just the feeling and thought of pain, it was quite clever really. Releasing the human from their agony Jane spun around again and walked a few steps forward until she was stood in front of Emma, "isn't it wonderful? the suffering we can cause the humans, the suffering our existence can cause, how wonderful..."

Emma listened to Jane, and watched almost in horror as her smile turned evil and she glanced out the window. Emma knew what would come next. She didn't have to follow Jane's gaze to know that someone was about to be wishing for death. The sounds coming from the square were enough to prove her right.
For what seemed like an eternity, she heard the poor bystander cry out in pain, with the others yelling frantically in italian. Emma let out a small sigh that was unaudiable even to Jane. "You mean the suffering you cause humans? My power doesn't cause anyone to suffer, you know. That is unless I choose it too..." She answered trailing off, wanting desperatly to get into Jane's head and make her do something.
But she knew Aro too well. As laidback as he was, he wouldn't be too pleased if one of his favourite possesions here was to disappear, or maybe go on a hunt through the square. So she shoved the want to one side before speaking again. "Well, I admit that maybe our hunting habits are maybe a little inhumane, but it's not like we can help it. Although there are the Cullens..." She trailed off, mostly speaking to herself at the end.

Jane took another step forward, she was now directly in front of the other female, they were near enough touching. Her red eyes, filled with hatred, looked up at Emma's face, "the Cullens are no better than we are, they have exposed our secret far too many times... they should be dead by now..."
The small female continued to look up at the taller one with menacing eyes, "i'm sure Aro would like to hear your thoughts on that family... it may even give me an opportunity to have more fun..." Jane smiled lightly, the thoughts of creating a connection to Emma's mind right here, to show this stupid person how far she could go with her power, to cause pain none of her victims have experienced before.... "So,Emmalynn, are you going to try and persuade me to spare you if that time comes?" The way she said the name, her voice had a hint of disgust, anger and hatred in... more so than when she talked normally...

Emma took a step back. She didn't need to be intimidated by Jane, who happened to me younger than her in more ways than one. "If I remember right, it was only one person, and she's now joined us." She replied, slightly annoyed at Jane wanting them dead. She had seen nothing wrong with them. When Carlisle had visited all those years ago, and when the whole of the Volturi had gone to Washington to kill the youngest Cullen, they'd been innocent then also. "I really don't see what's so wrong with them you know." She said, knowing that it'd probably annoy Jane even more.
"I'm sure Aro would be happy to hear what I think." She said, slightly on the defense. She was hyper-aware that this confrontation could turn deadly for herself, which would be great if Aro found out, but there was a large chance that he never would, so Emma was slightly scared. She cleared her throat. "You know I will." She answered simply, not showing any emotion. Emma desperately wanted to use it now, but something stopped her from doing so.

Jane frowned, "one human found out... they had a war with newborns, which I was sent to sort out, and they are now creating alliances with werewolves... if I had my way only four of them would survive, and that'd only be to please Aro..." Her frown turned into a crooked grin as she thought about the ways she could destroy the Cullens but still leave Edward, Alice, Bella and Renesmee alive... their powers would be useful to the Volturi.
"You know, I really hate you..." Jane muttered as she turned and walked to the window again, if it weren't for Aro liking this girl then she'd be in pain by now... possibly even dead... but Jane's loyalty lied with the Volturi and she knew too well that if she armed Emma the leaders wouldn't be pleased. Glancing in Emma's direction Jane smiled, "you seem defensive about the Cullens... thinking about joining them are we? thinking about taking up their lifestyle? I'd only be too pleased if you did, Aro would allow me to deal with it i'm sure..."

Emma rolled her eyes, listening impatiently to Jane. "Since when was that war their fault. And when you got there, it was already dealt with, no thanks to us." Emma said, hesitating slightly when it came to answering Jane about the wolves, for once, it seemed as though the two girls agreed with something. "Yes, the wolves might be a problem..." She answered.
This didn't come as much a shock to Emma. "Well that's a huge surprise." She said sarcastically, laughing at the end. Although being in this girl's bad books was never good. "Well someone needs to stand up for them." Emma answered curtly. "And no, I doubt anyone here has the self restraint for taking up that lifestyle..." No need to tell Jane that Emma actually was thinking about it.

"Of course the war was their fault! Jane snapped whilst tuning to face Emma again, "if the Cullens hadn't let her find out what they were then no newborns would have been created!" Jane grinned lightly, at last they could agree on something, the wolves were a major problem to vampire kind... a problem that should be dealt with...
"No one needs to stick up for that family, only traitors would think such things..." Jane growled sharply and took a step towards Emma, "and you don't want to start betraying us... or, I promise, you will suffer..." She said the last few words slowly and with emphasis, all traitors would be punished by Jane, it was the way it had always been, "now, Emmalynn, why don't you push your treacherous thoughts to one side, i'm sure we could get along fine..."

Emma raised her hands up in a surrendering pose. "Jane, calm down, no need to bite my head off because we have different opinions..." Ok, so technically she hadn't bit Emma's head off. Yet... A timid voice in the back of her head spoke, but she pushed it to one side before it could alarm Emma. "And look on the bright side, they all have someone now... D'you think it'll ever be our turn?" She joked lightly, hoping to ease the tension that had built up between the two.
But apparently Jane hadn't finished. Well, she may have finished with the Cullens, but it seemed as though she was about to start on Emma. "I have no doubt about that," Emma responded to Jane's words about 'traitors suffering'. Emma knew Jane well enough by now. Treacherous? Ha..." A different voice in her head spoke up, and Emma felt like laughing along with it, but then she'd have to explain why she was laughing with the voices in her head... Emma didn't need Jane thinking she was crazy. "I agree," She answered to Jane's last remark. "Why don't we just start again?" Emma asked, and then paused. "I'm Emmalynn, better known as Emma." She introduced, holding out her hand.

Jane looked at the hand that was held out in front of her and then up at the girl's face, was this person serious? Jane smiled evilly before looking at Emma's hand again, "you've got to be joking, right?" She raised her head and stared suspiciously at Emma, one moment they had been arguing and Jane had wanted so much to make Emma feel the pain her power could cause and now Emma was holding out her hand and asking for friendship... something wasn't right...
"I only said we could be friends, not that I wanted to be your friend... to be honest I don't see why anyone would want to be your friend, I for one would rather have a human for a mate and a werewolf has a friend rather than you" Jane's voice had a harsh tone to it but never-the-less still had a bit of calmness in it. Looking at Emma's hand again Jane decided that she would, for once, ignore her judgement; smiling lightly the small girl took the taller girl's hand and stared into the other's face, "a mutual friendship is all I will give you... one foot out of place though and you will feel pain quicker than you can say the Cullens..."

Emma didn't know what to say. If she answered 'yes', she'd look weird, but if she answered 'no', she'd look vulnerable, and Jane didn't need anything else to go on when it came to Emma. So she said nothing, leaving her hand there and just smiling.
She stared down at the young girl with wide eyes. "Well why didn't you just say that from the start?" She asked, getting slightly angry. She'd rather befriend a dog over Emma? That was quite mean, and Emma stared down at the floor, feeling dejected. She started wriggling her toes, not that anyone could see, but she knew she was doing it, and moved one foot so that it was standing on top of the other. She was still quite annoyed at what Jane had said, and didn't trust herself to talk just yet.
But when Jane actually took her hand, her head shot up, her face wide eyed. This wasn't the Jane that Emma had come to know and, well, not exactly love... But she knew what she meant. "A mutual friendship? Oh I'm not worthy!" Emma said sarcastically, deep down knowing that it was better that nothing. Jane's threat held little value to her. Knowing about anything was an immediate advantage to Emma, who could just persuade them not to do whatever they had planned... But she wasn't going to say anything. Her mind wandered off, trying to get her ability to work better through the mind, so that she didn't have to rely so much on the vocal side of it. After all, through the mind was a lot less subtle.
